    Georgia Island Tennis

If you’re hoping to hit one of the Georgia islands this spring or summer and have the opportunity to play a few games of tennis then there are a few places you should look into.  These are beautiful resorts that offer a lot of amenities in addition to the tennis courts.  If you’re there at the right time of year there’s nothing like a game of tennis in the morning and then lounging on the beach or soaking in the ocean.

Sea Island The Cloister & The Lodge on St. Simons Island is home of The Sea Island Tennis Club with 16 courts, 8 of which are lighted.  They also have professional instructors on staff offering lessons and instruction year round.  There are even lessons for children beginning at age 4.

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island, offers a variety of recreational sports.  They might be known as a Georgia golf resort but they haven’t forgotten about tennis lovers.  There are two courts which are reserved for resort guests.  They also have a tennis pro on staff to help you improve your game.  Private as well as group lessons are offered year round.

Jekyll Island is home to the Jekyll Island Tennis Center which has 13 clay courts and is open for vacationers.  It is ranked among the top municipal tennis facilities in the country.  To make reservations call 912-635-3154.

Sea Palms Resort on St. Simons Island offers guests the use of three clay tennis courts during their stay.

The Savannah Beach & Racquet Club is a condominium property located on Tybee Island.  The property has 3 tennis courts for guests to use.

Tybrisa Beach Resort, a time share property on Tybee Island, also offers guests the use of tennis courts.

St. Simons Island Family Spring Break

When considering heading south for a great family spring break, consider St. Simons Island. The island is a bit more sophisticated than some of the other islands however you will find it just as warm and welcoming with plenty of southern hospitality. It has been established as a lovely community with a pier and public access to the beautiful beaches. There are an amazing assortment of stores and restaurants and that laid back and relaxed feel you need during your spring break.

The island’s premier resort is The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort which is a wonderful family-oriented location. You can get a lovely room with a beach or ocean view or you can rent a cottage from the resort and enjoy all of the resort amenities but have a little more space to spread out.

Other cottages are available throughout the island though most won’t have all the extras of the resort. If you’re looking for a cottage elsewhere the main rental company to contact is Hodnett Cooper. Try to stay as close to a beach location as you can. Make lots of fun memories and enjoy your family spring break!

    Historic Hotels

When traveling across the country, or picking your vacation destination, consider staying in a historic hotel.  These hotels have been preserved and offer a unique opportunity to enjoy the ambiance.  The architecture of and stories behind some of these hotels is something to be enjoyed.  When planning a trip to Georgia there are a number of historic hotels to consider.

The Partridge Inn, in Augusta, was built in 1836 as a private home and was purchased and converted into a hotel by Morris Partridge in 1892.  The hotel has been through a number of renovations as well as highs and lows but it now stands in Augusta as an elegant and historically appealing full-service hotel.

The Greyfield Inn,  on Cumberland Island, is a colonial-style mansion.  It served as the 19th century retreat for the Carnegie family who had it built in 1900 for their daughter.  In 1962 the family converted the mansion into a hotel in order to preserve it.

The Smith House,  located in Dahlonega, was built in 1895 on top of a vein of Dahlonega gold ore which was not allowed to be mined so close to the town square.  In 1922 the property was sold to The Smith family who turned the home into an inn with seven rooms.  Here you will encounter true southern mountain hospitality.

River Street Inn,  on the riverfront of Savannah, sits adjacent to the old Cotton Exchange.  It was built in 1817 as a storage building for grading and exporting cotton.  Eventually the building was renovated into the elegant hotel that it is today.  With a central location between Factor’s Walk and River Street guests enjoy a short stroll to area museums and attractions.

The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
, is located on St. Simons Island, one of the famed Golden Isles of Georgia.  The King and Prince Club opened as a dance club in 1935.  In 1941 the main hotel building opened to guests.  Closed during WWII to serve as a training facility the building has since been through a number of renovations and is now a luxury beach and golf resort providing guests with superior service.
